A survey on teachers’ attitudes towards the feedback of evaluation results and improvement of teaching quality in Ahvaz Medical Sciences University

Introduction. The most important aim of teacher evaluation by students is feedback to teachers in order to inform the negative and positive points of their lectures and manners. The aim of this study was to investigate teachers’ attitudes towards the report of their evaluation results and effective factors in assessment variation. Methods. The research was a descriptive study using a questionnaire designed in accordance with the aims. The questionnaires were collected from non-clinical faculty members (return rate: 74.6%). The data was analyzed with SPSS and Chi-square test. Results. Although only 55% of faculty members were agreed with present teacher evaluation system, 85% of them believed that the report of evaluation results as a feedback is useful in improvement teaching quality. Disagreement of teachers with the system, mainly related to non-standard education system, biased opinion of students and disregard to teacher with reverence. 45.8% of faculty members believed that their evaluation score can reflect their teaching skills whereas 31% of them did not believe on this. Evaluation score for faculty members increased for 52.3% and decreased for 37.4% during this year. They believed the increase is mainly related to being more dominant on text course, renewing teaching skills, using applied and suitable material and reporting teaching evaluation results and the decrease is mainly related to problem in teaching skills, multi-lecturers for a course, decrease in motivations effected by unsuitable action from authorities and student's educational levels. Moreover, the data showed significant relationship between academic level and opinion of faculty members regarding present educational system (p= 0.03), effectiveness of evaluation score on improvement of teaching process (p=0.02) and variation in evaluation score (p=0.01). Conclusion. The awareness of authorities about educational status and their effort to handle the defects and other problems according to teacher's viewpoints, can increase the quality of educational.
